What It’s Like to Work Together: From First Enquiry to Final Images.

I’ve been asked a few times recently what th process looks like when working together, from the first enquiry through to receiving your final images. Understanding how everything comes together can make the experience feel more straightforward and considered and I keep the process simple, relaxed, and collaborative throughout. The aim is always to create images that feel honest to your work and natural to you.

The First Enquiry

Everything starts with an initial enquiry.

This is usually a message or email where you tell me about your business, what you’re looking for, and how you’d like to use the images. Whether you’re a small business, a creative, or building a new brand, this first step helps me understand what matters to you. From here, I’ll respond with more information about how I work, availability, and pricing. We can then begin to shape the idea of the shoot together.

Getting a Feel for Your Work

Before the shoot, I like to understand your work a little more deeply.

This will involve looking at your website, your social media, and having a deep dive conversation about your process. For many small business brands, the details matter: how you work, where you work, and what your day-to-day looks like. This stage helps shape the direction of the photography. This stage helps shape the direction of the photography. We might focus on the process itself, the materials you use, the tools, and the environment where the work happens.

Planning the Session

Once we have a clear idea of the direction, I begin to plan the session in a more structured way.

I put together an itemised shot list and a simple mood board. This helps us both feel clear on what we’re capturing, while still leaving space for things to unfold naturally on the day. The shot list usually includes key parts of your process, your workspace, and any details that feel important to your work. I t also includes any props or items that might be useful to include to strengthen the story. The mood board helps guide the overall feel of the images, light, tone, and atmosphere, so it feels consistent.

For small businesses and creatives, this stage is about finding a balance between being prepared and keeping the session relaxed. Nothing is overly staged, but there is a clear direction behind what we’re creating together.

The Shoot Itself

On the day of the shoot, my approach is relaxed and documentary-led.

Rather than asking you to perform for the camera, I’ll encourage you to move through your work as you normally would. This allows me to capture real, observational moments as they unfold. We’ll follow the shot list and there will be some gentle guidance where needed, but the focus is always on keeping things natural. Many people tell me they feel more at ease once they realise they don’t need to “pose” or get everything perfect. This is often where the most meaningful images come from, the in-between moments, the process, and the small details.

After the Shoot

After the session, I carefully go through the images and select the strongest set that reflects your work and the story of your business.

I then edit each image in line with my style, keeping the tones natural and the feeling consistent across the gallery. My aim is always to create a cohesive set of images that work well together across your website and social media.

Receiving Your Images

Once everything is ready, you’ll receive your final edited images via a downloadable online gallery.

From here, you can use them across your website, social media, and marketing materials. For many small businesses and creatives, having a library of images like this makes it much easier to show your work consistently.

A Collaborative Process

Working with a photographer shouldn’t feel complicated or overly structured. I see the process as something collaborative and adaptable. Every business is different, and each session is shaped around the way you work. The aim is always the same: to create a set of images that feel like a true reflection of your work, your process, and your brand.
